We are a charitable organization whose aims are to promote and disseminate information on Shelley Potteries and generally broaden the appreciation of Shelley and Wileman wares. For more information on the benefits membership of the Shelley Group can offer you, please visit our membership pages.

Shelley Group - Information Service

This service is provided to assist collectors in the identification and dating of Wileman/Shelley items that they would like to know more about. Please read the valuation and responsibility statements at the bottom of this page.

This service is also available to non-members, however, in order to monitor the service we offer our members, it would be helpful if you could answer the following questions:

Are you a member of the Shelley Group in the UK, Australia or the U.S.?

If the answer is No to the above, have you been a member in the past?

What is/was your membership number?

Please remember that the Shelley Group can NOT provide valuations.

If you have a question that you would like the Shelley Group to answer, please provide as much information as possible from the items listed below and e-mail it to us.

It would assist us greatly if you could also attach a picture of the item and of the base markings.

If your question is about a piece of pottery or china and you are unable to let us have a picture of the item and its base markings, please let us know all the markings on the base and answer as many of the following questions as possible.
Visit the "Study" section of this site (button above) to find all the chinaware cup shapes, most of the teapot shapes, images of most of the known Backstamps, Registered numbers, Pattern numbers, Shape letters and Other markings. The pattern numbers on chinaware can be three, four or five digits and sometimes have a / with a letter and/or number after that.

Please let us know:-:

What is the Shape (Teaware items)

Which Backstamp is on the item(s)

What is the pattern number

What is the shape number (if any)

Please remember that this service is run entirely by volunteers, it may be several days before we get back to you. Please be patient.

Because the valuing of items of china or pottery is so dependant on condition and rarity, which can only be judged by seeing the item, the Shelley Group is NOT able to provide valuations.

The Shelley Group make every effort to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible, however, we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage caused if it is not.
