Gainsborough Coffee Cup

ADDENDUM: Since compiling this web page two more China cup shapes have been discovered. The first in the home of one of our members. It is believed to be a Gainsborough Coffee cup and has the same pattern number as a (normal) Gainsborough tea cup - 7084 produced in 1900 or afterwards.

Foley (tall) cup 78mm high The second was observed on an internet auction site. The cup and saucer are pattern number 5043, which is identified as Ivy Print in the Knight and Hill 'Wileman' book, with the Empire shape listed. Without a direct Rd number for the shape the name was established by a collaboration of researchers who compared the rim of the cup to the known Foley (and other) tea cup shapes and concluded this was a Tall Foley shape.
These photos are not to scale.
