About the Group
The Shelley Group was formed in 1986 by a small number of collectors in the UK. Since then it has grown considerably and has over 200 members in the UK and the rest of the world. We are a charitable organisation (Registration No.1097547) whose aim is to promote and disseminate information on and generally broaden the appreciation of Shelley and Wileman wares. Why all the interest in Shelley?
The Shelley and Wileman mark is a sign of quality epitomising the best of production from the Staffordshire England potteries. Not only is It beautiful but it is diverse, ranging from everyday tableware to cabinet pieces of the very highest order.
Their bone china, although thin enough to be translucent, is surprisingly strong whilst their pottery is recognised as some of the best created. From the beginning they concentrated on getting the best china products possible. It has attracted collectors worldwide for many and varied reasons. Some people start because of a lovely inheritance such as a part tea set, some spot a stunning item at an antiques fair or auction, and yet others enjoy the social history behind the pieces. Whatever the reason, the Shelley Group is here to assist and provide an enjoyable social environment for you to pursue your interest.
